Rathinam College of Arts and Science (RCAS), a distinguished autonomous
institution founded in 2001 by the visionary Dr. Madan A. Sendhil. Nestled within a dynamic
70-acre campus that also houses the comprehensive Rathinam Group (including technical,
management, physiotherapy and pharmacy colleges, as well as a Tech Park and the AIC
Raise incubation center), RCAS provides a vibrant ecosystem for learning and collaboration.
Recognized for its unwavering commitment to quality, RCAS holds the highest NAAC accreditation of “A++” (CGPA 3.60) and has consistently secured a place among the top 200 institutions in the NIRF rankings for the past eight years. Furthermore, its 4-star rating in the IIC rankings for five consecutive years underscores its dedication to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.
Affiliated with Bharathiar University and approved by AICTE, RCAS offers a wide spectrum of programs (32 UG, 14 PG, and 8 Ph.D.) to its diverse student body of over 5,600, supported by 300+ dedicated faculty members. The college also embraces a global perspective, welcoming over 230 international students from 18 countries. Notably, five of its science departments are recognized under the DBT Star College Scheme, highlighting its strength in fundamental sciences.

- The department offers a well-structured Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) program in Physics and plays a crucial role in educating students from other departments through its core and elective physics courses.
- With a strong commitment to advancing knowledge, the department's Ph.D. program drives research in six dynamic areas: Nanomaterials, Thin Films, Crystallography, Quantum Computing, Materials Science, Active & Soft Matter, Biophysics, Medicinal Chemistry, and Computational Physics.
